CamGraPhIC, a Cambridge-based photonics startup, has raised €25 million in a Series A funding round co-led by the NATO Innovation Fund, CDP Venture Capital, Sony Innovation Fund, and Join Capital. Additional investors include Bosch Ventures, Frontier IP Group, and Indaco Venture Partners. The investment will support the expansion of research and development operations in Pisa and the establishment of a pilot manufacturing facility in Milan.

Specialising in graphene-based microchips that utilise both light and electrical signals, CamGraPhIC aims to provide faster, more cost-effective, and energy-efficient alternatives to traditional silicon-based technologies. Potential applications for this technology include artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, satellite communications, autonomous vehicles, and radar imaging systems. The company anticipates that commercial applications will be market-ready within the next few years.
